Venue: the Bluecoat, School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BX
Date: 29 August 2015
Monkey Mind Productions have come together with The Bluebird Cafe to devise and produce The Bluebird at the Bluecoat. The project marks the start of an exciting new relationship and talent development initiative between the two song writing cities of Liverpool and Nashville.
From an open call Monkey Mind Productions, Bob Harris (BBC Radio 2), David Macias (Thirty Tigers), Erika Wollam (The Bluebird Cafe), Ralph Murphy (ASCAP) and Yaw Owusu (Liverpool International Music Festival) selected two songwriters. We took them to Nashville to write and perform at The Bluebird as part of Tin Pan South songwriter’s festival in March and now the Bluebird comes to England for the first time. As part of Liverpool International Music Festival we present a world first and recreate The Bluebird at the Bluecoat!
The Bluebird’s signature format places the songwriters in the centre of the room, where they perform together ‘in the round’. Telling stories and accompanying each other. It allows the audience an up-close and personal experience of how songwriters create their music and features our winning songwriters and Grammy award winning US song smiths.
Our event will be as much immersive theatre as gig, entering the Bluecoat’s theatre space you will be transported to Nashville and find yourself in the world famous Bluebird Cafe.
2.00pm -5.00pm: We start the day with a group feedback panel and song writing workshop for our call-out finalists. Bob Harris, Erika Wollam and all the amazing artists in Liverpool for the shows will be on hand to offer feedback and advice to our finalists who will have the opportunity to play their music to these song writing experts. Closed session.
6.30pm -8.30pm: Exactly how they do it in Nashville, The Bluebird at the Bluecoat early show. In the round with Don Henry, Kim Richey, Kirsty McGee and Karen Turley. You will be seated by our friendly Bluebird staff to immerse yourself in the Bluebird experience, the talents of our call-out winners and the incomparable Nashville writers: Don Henry and Kim Richey.
9.00pm -11.00pm: The Bluebird at the Bluecoat late show hosted by Bob Harris. We continue our night with National Treasure Bob Harris hosting our late show. Bob will present artists Beth Nielsen Chapman, Jim Lauderdale and special guests taking time in between performances to discuss their careers and approach to the craft of song writing.
