Finale show featuring Grammy award winning Stax legend William Bell, Garry Christian, Susan Marshall, Joey Ankrah and our unsigned talent!
‘FROM MEMPHIS TO THE MERSEY’ FINALE CONCERT ANNOUNCED FOR MONDAY 28 AUGUST
Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room to host culminating evening
of Memphis-Liverpool songwriters’ exchange
(LIVERPOOL, UK) – Something special happened this summer between two of the world’s best-loved music cities, and the public is invited to experience it at the end of the month: From Memphis to the Mersey, an immersive cultural and creative exchange, will present its finale concert at the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room on 28 August.
Memphis and Liverpool are two cities long connected by the cotton trade and their music legacies. From Memphis to the Mersey built on this deep connection, selecting two emerging artists from each city to work and write alongside two mentors from each city during two weekends of activity. The four emerging artists (Christopher Kearney and Reid Anderson from Liverpool, Chris Milam and Lanita Smith from Memphis) met in Memphis in early August, where they had cowriting sessions and media opportunities at historic music sites like Sam Phillips Recording Service, Royal Studio and Sun Studio.
They collaborated with mentors William Bell (GRAMMY-award winner and Stax legend), Susan Marshall (Memphis singer, songwriter and producer), Garry Christian (the face and the voice of UK and international chart topping Liverpool band The Christians) and Joey Ankrah (Christians band member, multi- instrumentalist, writer and producer).
They’ll continue this collaboration as the second weekend of From Memphis to the Mersey kicks off 25 August in Liverpool, and the finale concert will feature new music written across both weekends of activity.
The public is invited to come learn about the project, the iconic music spaces involved and hear live music new and old. With appearances by William Bell, Susan Marshall, Garry Christian, Joey Ankrah and the four emerging artists – Christopher Kearney, Reid Anderson, Lanita Smith and Chris Milam – this promises to be an incredible evening of music.
Doors will open at 7 PM, music will begin at 7:30 PM. Tickets are £15 for this exclusive, one-off night and can be purchased from Liverpool Philharmonic’s website by following this link: http://www.liverpoolphil.com/whats-on/from-memphis-to-the-mersey.
From Memphis to the Mersey is made possible by support from the Memphis Convention & Visitors’ Bureau and Arts Council England.
